New Excerpt for Creatus Eidolon

For four thousand years, creatus have concealed themselves from the humans who hunted them almost to extinction.  Now, one rogue creatus faction wants the world to know they exist. This is an excerpt from Book Three in the Creatus Series, which is Coming Soon! If you'd like to start the series from the beginning, you can download the prequel, Creatus (They Exist) , here .  This week, I'm introducing you to a new character ... no spoilers, of course. Happy reading!  J “Yeah … I seen ’ da guy.  Never does enough to get arrested I guess, but from what I understand, he pushes the girls as far as they let him. Guess he’s into all that BDSM stuff.” The doorman smiled, and Casey couldn’t help but grimace, wondering if the big man liked that stuff too. He could only imagine what dominatrix would be powerful enough to bring the giant to his knees. A shiver went through him at the visual. Thankfully, he didn’t have time to experiment with domineering

Ride that wave as far as it will take you…

Don’t look at the rocks below, keep your eye on the wave, and ride it all the way to shore. Does that translate? I think so. I don’t think you have to be a surfer to get that analogy, and you certainly don’t have to be able to surf well—I can attest to that. Thank goodness for web-surfing, because I never was good at it, even though I grew up in Cocoa Beach, home of Ron Jon’s Surf Shop if you didn’t know. Anyway, how does this relate to writing? It doesn’t. It relates to selling. Here’s what I learned in the last couple of years: · Writing is easy; writing well is fractionally harder · Writing a query letter and synopsis is harder than writing a novel · Querying an agent or publisher is agony, way harder than writing a novel ·  But the hardest part of writing a novel, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is selling your novel. It’s a nightmare! Especially when you realize that although most authors are a little wacky and flamboyant,

Tragedy...is it really awful, or do we gain knowledge from misfortune? #AmWriting #AmReading

Tragedy draws us closer to God, to family, to loved ones. We love reading novels and watching movies about tragic events, we cannot impede ourselves from rubbernecking an auto accident, we strain our necks to hear about another person’s calamity . Why do we crave catastrophes? Oh, we say we don’t, but we certainly do. We desire the roller coaster of life, not the merry-go-round. Who wants to read about a faultless relationship, a perfect existence? Maybe we read about other people's suffering, so that we can appreciate our circumstances in life. Readers ask: “Why do all your characters experience such tragedy?” Answer: See above. Yes, you'll probably shed a tear when you read my novels, but I'll leave you with a smile.  Until next time, happy reading and writing, my friends. Carmen Thank you for stopping by my place and reading my musings. Remember, these are just my opinions and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. If you have questi

"What makes you think I’ll be on my back?" Excerpt from Creatus #3 Coming Soon!

For four thousand years, creatus have concealed themselves from the humans who hunted them almost to extinction.  Now, one rogue creatus faction wants the world to know they exist. This is an excerpt from Book Three in the Creatus Series, which is Coming Soon! If you'd like to start the series from the beginning, you can download the prequel, Creatus (They Exist) , FREE  here .  This week, I decided to take you into a training session... As with all excerpts, I left out the names of the main characters, so as not to have spoilers. Happy reading!  J He brushed her hair away from her face. “He won’t touch you. He knows I’d kill him.” “As you said ... when you’re around.” “I’m not going anywhere, baby.” She frowned. “Then why should I be afraid?” “I’d just feel better if you were prepared for anything. I wouldn’t want,” he made quote marks in the air, “a ‘mistake’ to happen on the street.” “Okay,” she conceded. “Where do we start?” He wigg

Too good to be true? Maybe! But Kindle Unlimited comes with a 30-Day FREE trial! So, I'm in!

I'm not into jumping on a bandwagon, but if I see something that's good, and I don't have anything to lose, I'm in! Plus, if it looks like a great opportunity for my avid-reading friends and a chance to meet new friends, I love sharing the news. Amazon   sent   the book-loving world into a tailspin with its announcement of Kindle Unlimited. This service isn't the first of its kind...   Oyster   has been doing this for a while. BUT ... this is Amazon, so you know it's   gonna   be awesome. That's my opinion, of course, but I'm very happy with the benefits and service I receive from Amazon. I've had several Kindles, and they just keep getting better and better.  And now ... they have Kindle Unlimited, which gives me an unlimited supply of books for $9.99 a month! Considering that I read three or more books a week, with a price tag up to $9.99 (I don't pay more than $10 for an eBook), this is an awesome deal for someone like me.
