A good old-fashioned slow burn romance or the fast and the furious? #AmReading #AmWriting

Skipping over my boring routine from five am to eight am, I want to share what I do between eight and ten, and a little thing about books I noticed today...

At eight am, I decide which books I will promote for other authors. If you didn't know, I love to help out my fellow authors--and myself naturally--by promoting books on GreatBooksGreatDeals.com

Well, today, I happened to be reading a two-star review of a book, about the fact that there wasn't enough angst...and that she gave up less than half the way... Ummm...can anyone say climax? Oh well, I understand...sort of. If a book doesn't hold my attention, I give up. But...that doesn't mean I need fireworks. Call me old-fashioned, but I love the slow burn of a relationship...or sometimes just getting to know the character. If getting to know them keeps my interest, I don't need fireworks and car chases. I enjoy the ride. Of course, there's always a climax, but unlike so many new novels...where the author or agent demands that the climax be in the first chapter and you work back from there, I enjoy the build up.

As always, I read over coffee, usually somewhere between nine and ten. Right now I'm reading an oldie, because it was on sale, and because I wanted to remember what the slow burn felt like. Boy doesn't meet girl in the first chapter, no one has had sex yet, but I am thoroughly enjoying Must Love Dogs. If you've seen the movie, even better...as you'll be able to picture the protagonists. Although, based on Claire Cook's description, I think I would have pictured John Cusack anyway. Love him! Anyway, if you're interested, you can find Must Love Dogs on GreatBooksGreatDeals.com for only $0.99 today. Take my challenge...see if you can remember how stories used to be written...with a slow burn, and see if you agree.

  1. Good post! I'm with you, Carmen. I like the slow burn romance too. The anticipation makes the story that much yummier. :)
