Tragedy...is it really awful, or do we gain knowledge from misfortune? #AmWriting #AmReading

Tragedy draws us closer to God, to family, to loved ones. We love reading novels and watching movies about tragic events, we cannot impede ourselves from rubbernecking an auto accident, we strain our necks to hear about another person’s calamity . Why do we crave catastrophes? Oh, we say we don’t, but we certainly do. We desire the roller coaster of life, not the merry-go-round. Who wants to read about a faultless relationship, a perfect existence? Maybe we read about other people's suffering, so that we can appreciate our circumstances in life. Readers ask: “Why do all your characters experience such tragedy?” Answer: See above. Yes, you'll probably shed a tear when you read my novels, but I'll leave you with a smile.  Until next time, happy reading and writing, my friends. Carmen Thank you for stopping by my place and reading my musings. Remember, these are just my opinions and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. I...

The modern-day fairy tale...these princesses don’t have time to wish upon a star. #AmWriting

Welcome to the modern-day fairy tale. These princesses don’t have time to wish upon a star; they’re too busy trying to make it through life. Of course, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a prince, but don’t expect him to come dashing in to save the day with bright and shiny armor. My princes usually require a little buffing before they shine, but then again, don’t we all? None of us is perfect, and who wants to read about a perfect relationship anyway? Where’s the fun in that? Nope! Most of us want to chew on our nails, sit on the edge of our seat, wondering what will happen next. If you yell at my characters, good! That means I made you believe. Every one of the books in my Southern Romantic-Suspense Novels takes on different issues, but I will never glorify an act. Instead, I’ll show you how my protagonists work through, and hopefully, overcome tragedy, chemical abuse, abandonment, physical abuse… Yep, I like to run full speed into these situations and work toward...

A new man, a new life, and a gun for Christmas. My real-life fairy-tale Christmas.

Like many kids, I come from a dysfunctional family. Unfortunately, my family is a tad bit more dysfunctional than other families. But since this is a Christmas story, I’ll save the tales of horror for Halloween. J I did have a ray of light in my life, though. I had wonderful grandparents and an Uncle and Aunt who were wonderful role models. Still, many years sitting at my cousins’ Christmases, made me long for the family I never had. So the weekend before Thanksgiving it wasn’t unusual for me to start feeling depressed. I was twenty-two, I’d been living on my own and dating the wrong men since I was seventeen, and my prospects weren’t looking good that I’d ever find my happily ever after. I’d prayed to God more nights than I could remember for Him to rescue me from the road I was travelling. And then, a funny thing happened. My roommate wanted me to go out partying on Saturday night. I’d refused repeatedly. I had a final on Monday, and if I didn’t pull my grade up,...

CREATUS, the reason we believe in fairy tales--and Monsters. #Paranormal #Suspense

After years of searching for the mysterious stranger who saved her life, twenty-two-year-old Kristina is alone and desperate. Seeing no future in her worthless existence, she attempts to force her protector out of the shadows the only way she knows—killing herself. Ignoring his family’s disapproval, Derrick continues to safeguard the girl he rescued from a vicious attack years earlier. The one thing he can’t protect her from, however, is herself. When Kristina jumps off a bridge, he must reveal himself, even if saving her means she will now be in danger  from  his kind. To make things worse, a video revealing Derrick’s supernatural ability when he saved Kristina is now in the possession of a government agency, and someone in his family will do anything to keep their existence a secret, even kill Kristina, the woman Derrick can no longer live without. The Creatus Series is not your normal paranormal story ... it's a  realistic ...

Sometimes she wished her Dark Angel hadn’t saved her. Excerpt from CREATUS:

Now Available! In every myth there is a modicum of truth… Creatus The reason we believe in fairy tales—and monsters. Start from the beginning   here , or read on for this week's excerpt . She hadn’t planned to go home with a stranger. But when he’d suggested they could get high together, it had sounded like fun, a chance to escape her nightmares and her empty apartment. A chance to do anything but feel the pain she endured by her guilt every time she closed her eyes. Kris strained to hear the chirp from her vehicle as she weaved along the sidewalk. Her heels lodged into the cracks in the concrete, causing her to trip several times. Somerville was such a dump. She should have used the money from selling her mother’s jewelry six years ago on eBay and moved to California. Instead, she’d stayed in this frigid, run-down suburb of Boston. But she knew why she hadn’t. She was afraid if she left, she’d never see her protector again. A day didn’t go b...

Prepare to believe. New excerpt from CREATUS, a Paranormal Romantic-Suspense

Now Available! In every myth there is a modicum of truth… Creatus The reason we believe in fairy tales—and monsters . For my excerpt this week, I will be using a never before seen book description that gives you a little insight on Creatus . Kristina knows he exists. She witnessed his supernatural strength when he saved her life and his sorrow when he failed to save her mother . She knows he watches over her from a distance. And she will do whatever it takes to get his attention, even throw herself off the highest bridge in Boston to force him out of the shadows. Derrick is one of the creatus , created beings who have been on earth more than four thousand years. Many questions surround the origin of these sentient beings who are stronger than humans, eat differently, and live longer. But they were created just as we were, maybe even before us. It is from them we obtain our fairy tales—and our nightmares. They are the reason we believe in superheroe...
