"The Memory Assaulted Her" Excerpt from LAND OF THE NOONDAY SUN

When two strangers have nothing left but their dreams, they must forge a relationship in Nantahala, North Carolina, a small town known as, Land of the Noonday Sun,

A few episodes ago, Cassandra had met the hunky whitewater guide. We missed their little interlude, then she insulted him and he stormed off. Now she's left standing there, wondering what she should do next.

Excerpt:

She almost decided it was enough of this nonsense; she didn’t need the money. She’d eventually land a decent job. She could move back to Florida, stay with Karen for a few months; she didn’t need this headache.
Without warning, the memory of him taking her hand yesterday assaulted her. She remembered the warmth that had rushed through her. She had never felt even remotely attracted to any man the way she’d felt toward him. She really should leave this state immediately, but for some reason she couldn’t. She couldn’t find the courage to struggle for anything right now. The last few years had been so stressful. This could be an opportunity for her to stop and take a hard look at her life and, of course, there would be a handsome payday at the end. So that was it then. This would just be a six-month job opportunity, like interning.
“Are you coming?” his voice rang out, startling her. “Follow me if you want to.”
Follow him…if she wanted to. They were the identical words he’d used yesterday—right before she found herself dumped in the frigid waters of the Nantahala.

    1. Thank you. I thought she did a fabulous job. I told her exactly what I wanted down to the tee...and she was able to make it happen. It was as if she literally pulled the scene from my head. Amazing what artists can create from minor details.

    1. Yeah, anything out of context does kind of seem drastic...but I purposely look for what I think will sound the most powerful in six little sentences. If you read back a few weeks ago where I described him....I got lots of drastic reactions. LOL! He brings out the best in women. Out of five books, I have to confess, he is my fav male MC, but it could because I'm currently editing, and I tend to dream about my characters. ;)

    1. Thank you, Angela. I like the internal dialog better than the spoken dialog; it seems as if you can say so much more on Six Sentence Sunday. :)

    1. She is intense....she needs to lighten up. So serious all the time. LOL! Maybe having to live in "Land of the Noonday Sun" will do it. ;)

    1. Poor thing...nothing in her life has been a choice, but yes, she's gonna have to decide, and he's not making life easy. She doesn't like her body's automatic reaction to him at all. LOL!

To prologue or not to prologue, that is the question. Readers, please weigh in!

Personally, I love prologues. They get you right into the action whether it was in the past or something exciting that is to come. But that’s exactly why most agents’ blogs I’ve read say not to use them. Paraphrasing…“If you need a prologue, then your story must not be strong enough…” Hmm … well, I like them, and I use them. But I’m curious what readers think, and I’d love you to weigh in. AND, if you have some great examples, please leave the title in the comment section. Now … here’s what I’ve noticed. Plenty of bestselling books have used them, even though they aren’t always called prologues . Same diff in my opinion. My biggest example is ‘Twilight’. If that little blurb wasn’t in the beginning, I don’t think I would have made it through the first chapter. How about movies? I don’t watch a lot. But I’ve started to notice how many have “prologues”. I also don’t have cable, but I have NetFlix, and hubby has just started watching ‘Breaking Bad’. Okay … I...
