She returned every night, waiting, as imposters propositioned her. SPLIT DECISIONS

We are in chapter two of Split Decisions, but you can catch up here if you like; there’s a link that will bring you right back.

Excerpt:

And this was her favorite place. As prestigious as it was, the restaurant catered to all lifestyles. The proprietors enforced no dress code other than pants and a collared shirt, and even that rule could be broken if someone of influence walked in, or if they drove up in an expensive enough vehicle.
The five-star institution served the finest steaks and largest potatoes on the strip, and after dinner, a cigar bar awaited patrons. Because of this, highly influential and down-home businessmen alike dined as equals.
She could go anywhere, but she always started here. As if waiting for someone to appear, as if the man-of-her-dreams would arrive and sweep her off her feet. The man she wanted never showed, so she returned every night, waiting it seemed, as imposters propositioned her.

  1. She seems to need something to wake her up, she can't waste her time waiting like that. I hope something good will happen to her.

  2. I love the last line about the imposters. I also had the same reaction as Linda to the snippet, she needs to wake up and go after what she wants, rather than waiting around.

  3. Good morning, and thank you for commenting, ladies. You're correct, of course. But sometimes...when we lose something precious, we'll continue to look for it in the last place we saw it. :)

  4. Beautiful eight, l feel for her but understand her hopeless waiting.

  5. Have a feeling things are about to turn around for her. I hope, anyway:)

  6. Really an interesting snippet, definitely makes me want to read more! You establish such an atmosphere!

  7. Thank you, Gemma! Yes, I think we've all been there at one time or another, haven't we?

Thank you for commenting. Eleri. Ummm...well...it's hard to say. I'm not one for the traditional HEA. I promise to always leave the reader with a smile, but I've written two novel per readers' demands because someone didn't get their HEA. LOL!

Thank you, Veronica! You know how I love to get a feel of the location in my writing. Though...I couldn't figure how to get my beloved outdoors in this one as much as I did with my others. But I still try to put you on scene of course. :)

  8. Poor girl. I hope she finds that special someone.

  9. Great snippet! And don't you think so many people feel like that? Prince charming is never around, only the pumpkins.

  10. I like your description of the restaurant. Nice excerpt!

  11. LOL, Melinda! It feels that way sometimes, doesn't it? We need more fairy god mothers maybe... :)

Thank you, Beth! I try to create atmosphere. I know it makes it easier for the reader to place themselves in the story...but...it also comes into play later on. Everything means something in a mystery, right? :)

Ahhh...Elaine, I really try to always find someone special...but....sometimes we make stupid decisions. Hence the name 'Split Decisions'. But I swear...I always leave the reader with a smile, though sometimes a few tears must fall. :(

"As in any fairytale, everything good must come to an end." ENTANGLED DREAMS:

Now, if you’ve read any of my novels or excerpts, you know I don’t do happy-go-lucky beginnings; and as in any fairytale, a little rain must fall, or in the case of my stories, I prefer a monsoon. This week’s excerpt: But alas, as in any good fairytale, everything good and wonderful must come to an end. After the tragic accident that snatched her mother away from Alexandra, her father moved them away from the beaches of Destin to another beach in Florida. Cocoa Beach. Cocoa Beach was loud, the water murky, and there were no weekend adventures as there had been in Destin. Her father married her evil stepmother, Lilith, who Alexandra was certain was a witch with her long, black as midnight hair and pale-white skin as if she’d never seen sunlight. Her father had admitted he wasn’t in love with Cruella, as she had come to think of the witchy woman, but that he’d wanted Alexandra to have a mother and siblings. Well, she definitely got that. The k

To prologue or not to prologue, that is the question. Readers, please weigh in!

Personally, I love prologues. They get you right into the action whether it was in the past or something exciting that is to come. But that’s exactly why most agents’ blogs I’ve read say not to use them. Paraphrasing…“If you need a prologue, then your story must not be strong enough…” Hmm … well, I like them, and I use them. But I’m curious what readers think, and I’d love you to weigh in. AND, if you have some great examples, please leave the title in the comment section. Now … here’s what I’ve noticed. Plenty of bestselling books have used them, even though they aren’t always called prologues . Same diff in my opinion. My biggest example is ‘Twilight’. If that little blurb wasn’t in the beginning, I don’t think I would have made it through the first chapter. How about movies? I don’t watch a lot. But I’ve started to notice how many have “prologues”. I also don’t have cable, but I have NetFlix, and hubby has just started watching ‘Breaking Bad’. Okay … I
